| Biography: |
Senior offensive tackle Billy Bates (rated the #6 prospect in the state of Oregon as a high school senior) joined the Vandal program in 2005 and earned immediate playing time as a true freshman against the Washington Huskies. He went on to start two games (against Hawaii and Utah State) before an injury ended his season. He worked his sophomore season as Idaho's backup left tackle, and last spring spent significant time with the #1 offense battling redshirt freshman Kellen Beam for the starting left tackle position. In the end, Bates switched to right tackle and started every game for the Vandals in 2007 as a junior.
As a senior Bates is expected to be among Idaho's top linemen and a starter when the team opens at Arizona this fall.
