As a second-year freshman in 2005 he saw limited action as Cougs' No. 3 QB behind Alex Brink and Josh Swogger. Played in two early games when WSU had a large lead, so did not throw a pass. Against USC he completed two of five passes for 12 yards.
One of the earliest verbals (May 4, 2003) in Cougar history after being named the most valuable quarterback at Washington State's team camp in summer 2003.
Despite working in a run-dominated
offense in high school, the two-time team captain averaged about 1500 yards and 14 TDs his junior and senior seasons. Recruiting analysts ranked him among the top 30 prep QB prospects in the nation.
