Since the 1960s Idaho has considered multiple basketball arena designs. No UI AD has pushed this facility more than Rob Spear since taking over in 2004. In the last decade at least four proposals have been considered. We’ve waited for this project to become a University of Idaho priority, and now new President “Chuck” Staben must end the talking and take meaningful steps to get an arena built.

Vandals Win!

Vandals Win!

WHEN IDAHO STARTING QUARTERBACK Matt Linehan went out of the game on a vicious 1st quarter hit, a hush settled over the Vandal crowd assembled for this Homecoming matchup in Moscow. However, sophomore quarterback CHAD CHALICH stepped up in a big way, leading an Idaho offense that produced 536 total yards enroute to the Vandals first win of the season, a 29-17 triumph over New Mexico State.

SIGNED OUT OF JC AS A QUARTERBACK LAST YEAR, senior JOSH MCCAIN worked under center as a backup who saw significant playing time. Called to duty to give the offense a spark, McCain's athletic ability was impressive. This spring he selflessly agreed to move to wide receiver and has been outstanding, climbing to the top of the depth chart and gaining 568 yards with six TDs as Idaho's No.1 target.

GAMEWEEK: Inside the Texas State Bobcats

SATURDAY AFTERNOON THE VANDALS HEAD TO SAN MARCOS to take on a rugged Texas State team in Bobcat Stadium at 4pm PST (televised LIVE on ESPN3). This is the first Sun Belt game of the season for the Bobcats (2-2, 0-0 SBC), and they will undoubtedly give the Vandals (0-4, 0-2 SBC) all they can handle. This is the 7th meeting between the teams (series tied at 3-3), with TSU winning the last three.

IDAHO'S STRUGGLE TO FIND A WINNING BALANCE continued Saturday afternoon after South Alabama (2-2, 1-1 Sun Belt) jumped out to a 20-0 halftime lead, held off an Idaho (0-4, 0-2 Sun Belt) charge in the third quarter, then cruised to a 34-10 win. There was a boisterous Vandal crowd at this Dad's Weekend game, but for the first weekend this season the Vandal offense gave the faithful little to cheer.

IN THE FINAL YEAR AS A MEMBER OF THE WESTERN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE (2013-14), the Vandals took home the WAC Commissioner's Cup - honoring the conference's top overall athletics program. On the heels of that award, Idaho has been recognized by the Laboratory for the Study of Intercollegiate Athletics at Texas A&M University with the Excellence in Management Cup for the 2013-14 academic year.

Idaho comeback falls short at Ohio

THE VANDALS BATTLED BACK from a 17-0 second quarter deficit with a big third quarter effort to pull within 20-17 at the start of the fourth quarter. But when the Bobcats needed scores late in the game, Idaho couldn't get a stop. Despite throwing three picks (one a tipped ball at the line), MATT LINEHAN was poised while throwing for 353 yards and two touchdowns, completing 33-of-55 attempts.

ON THE HEELS OF A FRUSTRATING home opening loss to Western Michigan last weekend, Idaho hits the road to take on another Mid-American Conference opponent in Ohio University. The Bobcats (1-2) opened the season with a win at Kent State, but have dropped consecutive games to Kentucky and Marshall, while Idaho (0-2) will try to finally break into the win column (LIVE on ESPN3, 4:00PM PST kickoff).

Vandals drop home opener to Western Michigan

ALTHOUGH IDAHO REDSHIRT FRESHMAN quarterback Matt Linehan threw for over 300 yards for the second consecutive week, including hitting wide receiver JOSHUA MCCAIN on this 75-yard 4th quarter touchdown, the Vandals fell short in their 45-33 home opening loss to Western Michigan. Notably, Idaho's defense could not stop WMU tailback Jarvian Franklin who carved up the Vandals for 210 rushing yards.

Oh, so close

Oh, so close

IDAHO REDSHIRT FRESHMAN quarterback MATT LINEHAN got the starting nod Saturday night against ULM in a Sun Belt Conference matchup, and very nearly walked away with the win. Idaho battled back from a 10-point deficit at the start the 4th quarter to tie the game at 31-31 with 4:22 remaining. But with just 9 seconds left in the game the Warhawks punched it in for the go-ahead score and a 38-31 win.

VANDAL GAMEDAY: Idaho @ UL-Monroe

SEASON OPENER, PART DEUX. On the heels of a nice payday, the Vandals left The Swamp with an unblemished 0-0 record when their tilt with Florida was washed out after the first, weather-delayed play. This weekend the Vandals head to Bayou Country to take on the University of Louisiana at Monroe in a Sun Belt Conference early season match-up with the Warhawks (LIVE on ESPN3, 4:00PM PST kickoff).
