GoVandals.net confirmed today that Compton (Calif.) High School heavy-hitting linebacker JAMES RANDALL (6-1, 190, 4.69), ranked the No.63 weakside linebacker nationally for the 2009 recruiting class, signed with the Vandals after a busy recruiting summer (including a trip to Nebraska). He enrolled this week and will be working with the Vandal defensive unit this spring at linebacker or safety.
Last recruiting cycle many Vandal fans were anticipating Idaho getting a signed LOI from Compton High School standout
James Randall
as part of the 2009 recruiting class. Ranked the No.63 weakside 'backer nationally in 2009, he was projected as an impact player at linebacker or safety at the collegiate level.
A year later, GoVandals.net has confirmed that Randall did sign with Idaho after his May 1st visit and a busy summer that included an official trip to Lincoln (Neb.) to meet with the
Nebraska
Cornhuskers, as well as interest from New Mexico State and others. With the Vandals he'll get his shot at safety and linebacker, and that shot starts this spring on the Moscow campus.
Check back in here for a follow-up interview with Randall soon to talk about his commitment, signing and enrollment at Idaho.
In the meantime, here's a little background on Compton's All-Area selection.

BY: Scott Kennedy
If I were going to the game without knowing who was who on the field, and someone told me that
USC
had a commitment on Compton, I would have said "That's him right there, #1 is the best player on the field tonight."
James Randall
isn't committed to anyone, but it's not for a lack of ability. Randall plays outside linebacker for Compton, but he runs like a free safety. He'll take on blockers, chase down receivers, and even throw in a touchdown catch for good measure. Randall may go the JuCo route before hitting the big time, but he's a difference maker on the field.
SENIOR SEASON STATS:
68 tackles (44 solo), five sacks, four fumble recoveries and an interception. Bryant was one of the top defenders for Compton his senior seasons, playing both outside linebacker and at safety. "James had a magnificent season," said head coach Calvin Bryant. "He created havoc on opposing quarterbacks all year."
