For the third time in four years, the Vandals have a freshman named to at least one Freshman All-American Team. This season it's true freshman cornerback AARON GRYMES, named to the Phil Steele All-Freshman Third Team. Grymes joins Deonte Jackson (2007, Honorable Mention, The Sporting News) and Shiloh Keo (2006, Honorable Mention, The Sporting News).

University of Idaho true freshman cornerback Aaron Grymes (5-11, 160, 4.4-40) had a stellar freshman campaign for the Vandals, earning five starts on the season and playing in all 12 games despite playing with a cast on his hand the last few weeks. He finished 9th on the team with 41 tackles including 30 solo take downs. He was also creditted with one tackle for loss and two pass breakups on the season.

By the second game of the season, a road trip at Washington, it became clear that Grymes - working primarly on special teams then - was bringing an impressive level of speed and aggressiveness to the Vandal defense. His effort in that game on special teams and playing a prominant role in the CB rotation earned him the starting nod the following week against San Diego State. Despite his youth, what was probably most impressive about Grymes this season was how quickly he converged on the ball carrier and his continued development as a cover corner this season.

For his efforts this season, the West Seattle (Wash.) High School graduate was named to Phil Steele's All-Freshman Third Team this week.

Our sources now say that the cast is off and Grymes is back to the form he displayed earlier this season. This is welcome news, especially for a Vandal defense that will line up against Bowling Green's potent passing attack in the 2009 Roady's Humanitarian Bowl later this month.

Grymes is joined by Boise State's J.C. Percy (a Third Team selection) as the only freshmen from the Western Athletic Conference named to Phil Steele's All-Freshman Defensive Team.
