On the shoulders of powerful tailback DEMAUNDRAY WOOLRIDGE (143 yards rushing against the vaunted Huskies defense) and the monsterous Vandal O-Line, Idaho came to DeKalb as 16.5-point underdogs to Northern Illinois and withstood a furious NIU fourth quarter comeback to seal a 3-point victory for the Vandals. GoVandals.Net made it all the way to DeKalb to capture these Vandal victory images.
The University of
Idaho
(3-1, 1-0 WAC) dominated this game for the first three quarters (a stellar performance by the Vandals all around), then yielded 15 fourth quarter points as the
Northern Illinois
Huskies (2-2, 0-0 MAC) closed the game to 34-31 with just under six minutes left in the game.
The Vandals then began their final drive of the game - a drive that would prove to be the biggest of the afternoon. The drive was kept alive with enormous plays by quarterback
Nathan Enderle
, a clutch third down reception along the sideline by wide receiver
Eric Greenwood
, and some blistering power running by senior tailback
DeMaundray Woolridge
to push the Vandals inside the NIU 10-yard, where Idaho took a knee with a minute to go to run out the clock.
The Vandals improve to 3-1 for the first time since going back to the Football Bowl Subdivision level (formerly Division 1A), and are off to their best start since 1994. Next up for Idaho is a home game in the Kibbie Dome against
Colorado State
this coming weekend in a matchup that will be telecast LIVE nationally by ESPN-U.
Check back in with GoVandals.net in the next couple of days as Larry Johnson files a more detailed photogallery of Idaho's impressive 34-31 road victory over Northern Illinois.
