SCRIMMAGE QUOTES: S/PR Shiloh Keo
Q: The offense fared well against the defense today.
SHILOH KEO: "Uh, yeah. The offense came. They came ready to play. They did a lot of great things. As a defense, as a captain, I'm glad they did what they did. It just showed the defense that we've got a lot to work on. We've been practicing well as a defense. We've been having some great practices. Today it seemed like we kinda took a step, and we can't afford to do that. We've got to play with a sense of urgency, and we didn't do that today."
Q: Did you kinda spot what did seem to be the deficiency for you guys today? Guys not in the right spot or anything?
SK: "You know, a lot of things went wrong for us today. It was all mental. A lot of alignment and assignment things that were missed out there, and that's all it takes. It takes a couple big plays here and there to get a team...get the morale down. Another unfortunate thing, there's a lot of pointing of the fingers going on. We tried to get rid of that, but we weren't able to come back from it."
Q: So stuff that video is going to definitely show you?
SK: "Oh, definitely. We made sure – all our leaders on the defense – we made sure that everybody's going to be in the film room and learn from their mistakes. That's the good thing about today, because there's a tomorrow. The film is going to help us out a lot. We're going to understand where we messed up and be able to go forward from there."
Q: So you're not too concerned?
SK: "You've got to be concerned. You've got to, especially after the season we just got through. We all are [concerned], and we can't afford to have days like this. We've got to progress every single day, and when you take a step back you've got to start sprinting forward."
GAYLEN WOOD: It seems like the last two years it was the same sort of a situation – the offense lit everything up the first scrimmage and the defense took over from there. Are you anticipating…now you're smiling!
SK: [chuckling] "It's funny. You know, I've been here for three years, and it's always seemed to go that way. Offense is here one day, the defense is here the next day. For right now I'll feel happy because that means the defense is going to pick it up, but at the same time as a whole we need to be on top of our game at all times. The defense needs to be making great plays, great stops, and the offense needs to be making great plays and getting in the end zone. I wish it could go both ways throughout the whole scrimmage. It's unfortunate that it wasn't."
