With the last selection in the 2008 NFL Draft, former Vandal Scott Linehan, now head coach of the St. Louis Rams, selected outside linebacker DAVID VOBORA. The two-time First Team All-WAC selection waited through two days and 251 picks of Draft hype to become the first Vandal selected since Jake Scott in 2004 (5th round pick). From everyone at GoVandals.net, congratulations to the Vobora family. | |||||||||||||

It took two full days of selections and 251 picks, but at last Vandal standout David Vobora had his name called in the 2008 NFL Draft. Predicted by many prognosticators to be selected anywhere from the 5th to the 7th round, Vobora was chosen today with the last pick in the NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams. For many Vandal fans, we learned something today about the NFL Draft. For the last player picked in the Draft, in addition to the relief of an NFL contract, they also earn the tongue-in-cheek honor of being named "Mr. Irrelevant". At first, being new territory for many of us, we figured it was just a nickname for the last player selected. Turns out there is more to the name. A lot more. There is an official Mr. Irrelevant website (click HERE to go to the site), and a week-long celebration for the honoree in June in southern California. From the site: Irrelevant Week is a week-long celebration of the Underdog, the final pick of the NFL draft held in Orange County. Events include a golf tournament, a regatta and a sports banquet, and are open to the public. The idea for this celebration was formulated in 1976 by Irrelevant Week's founder and chief spokesperson, Paul Salata. From all of us at GoVandals.net congratulations to David, his family and friends, and best of luck at the next level.
