BELOW IS THE OFFICIAL UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO PRESS RELEASE ON SENIOR MICHAEL CROWELL'S HONOR THIS WEEK AS WESTERN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK.

DENVER – Idaho senior forward Michael Crowell has been named the Western Athletic Conference men’s basketball player of the week for Feb. 25-Mar. 2. This is the first career WAC Player of the Week honor for the senior and the second for the Vandals this season.

Crowell, a senior from Mesa, Ariz. (Central Arizona College), earned his first career double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds in a road win at Hawaii. He shot 56-percent from the floor and 50-percent from the three-point line in the two games. Crowell led the Vandals to their first two WAC road wins ever, as Idaho defeated both Hawai‘i and San Jose State on the road. The senior led the Vandals in scoring in each game and rebounding at Hawaii (11 rebounds). He made a career-high eight field goals at Hawai‘i, while playing a career-high 44 minutes against the Warriors. He also scored 20 points against the Spartans with five rebounds.

Crowell has eclipsed 20 points in each of the last three games to lead the Vandals in scoring in each contest. He is averaging 20.3 points and shooting 55-percent from the floor and 50-percent from the 3-point line during that span. He has played all but 57-seconds of the last three games.

Crowell and Michael Hall have given Idaho two Player of the Week awards in a season for the first time since 2002-03 while in the Big West Conference. The Vandals earned just six Player of the Week honors during nine seasons in the Big West.

Idaho returns home for the final game of the 2007-08 regular season as hosts to Utah State Saturday (March 8). The Vandals will honor its four seniors as they play their final home game at Idaho.
