RECRUITING HAS BEEN heating up for 6-3, 197-pound Brandon Turner out of Kent, Wash., who was recently named the SPSL 4A Defensive Back of the Year. Will Turner officially visit Idaho? Is a silver and gold offer potentially waiting in the wings for the athletic and versatile Kentlake High standout?

Turner has an official visit set up with Idaho for the third week in January.

"(Indications are) they'll officially offer when I get down there on a visit, I think it's the the 18th or the 19th," said Turner. "I haven't heard much from them lately. I've seen that there are a lot of facilities there....I have to really get down there, see it and really feel the atmosphere."

Turner played phone tag with Washington State last week.

"I was being very heavily recruited at Eastern ....they were going to analyze my film and get back to me and that's what that call was about," said Turner.

Eastern had not yet offered Turner, although that's not unusual and could have been because I-AA Eastern was waiting to see if Pac-10 or others were going to put a scholie on the table.

Washington State Todd Sturdy has been running the recruiting point on Turner for Washington State and previously at Eastern.

"It's a great school," said Turner of WSU. "I've actually tripped over there for camps four times, I know all about Wazzu. It's a good environment and a traditional college town. I'd need to go out there, and I don't know if I'd need to take a visit but I'd need to go out there and see what's up. I like the coaches there. But whatever school is right, I'll pull the trigger on."

Other schools in the mix include Nevada, Hawaii and Idaho State. And then there's Navy.

"I could definitely go to the Naval Academy because I do want to go into the Navy after school," said Turner. "But the thing is I also kind of want to have that college experience and it would be a whole different lifestyle over there at Navy. At the same time, there are people that (desperately want) to get into the Naval Academy. People go in with great test scores and perfect GPA's and don't get in.

"I'll just need to dig deep inside and make sure it's the right decision."

Recruiting is currently in a dead period, which means no on- or off-campus visits are permissible through Jan. 1. One phone call a week from a school to prospect is allowed during a dead period, and prospects themselves can call a coach anytime and without restriction throughout the course of the recruiting year. Signing Day is Feb. 6.
