Green takes in Idaho experience
"He talked to me mostly about the school, why Idaho would be a good place to choose and the possibility of an official visit," said Green. "We also talked about the possibility of him coming to the house later (for an in-home visit), probably in December."
Since Sept. 1, Green has been receiving weekly calls from Idaho, Washington, Purdue, Air Force, Portland State, Boise State and Montana. The UW and Portland State are among those who have been at Green's games this season.
Of that group, Idaho, Purdue, Washington and Air Force, in no particular order, have been showing him the most recruiting love.
GREEN'S UNOFFICIAL VISIT to Idaho on Saturday saw him hit the road about 5 a.m., returning about 3 a.m. on Sunday morning. Early starts are nothing new for Green, who regularly gets up around 5 a.m. during the week so that he has time to drive into school and get in his morning workout before his school day begins.
His early senior season tape went out this past Tuesday. In addition to Idaho, Green sent copies to Oregon State, Oregon, Air Force, Arizona State, Stanford, Cal, Washington, Boise State, Utah, Purdue, BYU and Princeton.
It should be one heck of a tape.
COMING OFF A shellacking against powerhouse Jesuit, Green lit it up against No. 4 ranked Canby. He passed for 124 yards and a touchdown in the first half, ran for two touchdowns and hightailed it 69 yards on an option keeper to set up another one in an upset bid that fell just short. That performance, however, did not surpassed the thrill ride that was Week One.
In a season opener against Evergreen (WA) they'll be talking about for quite some time, Green, with no time left on the clock, let fly a 59-yarder that was deflected -- by design -- by Demetrius Guice into the waiting arms of Jordan Freelander. Long bomb. House. W. Green was 34-of-58 for 364 yards with 4 TDs and ran in another score in the 43-40 victory.
And the tape went out before this past Friday's game, where Green went 24-of-34 for 299 yards and 4 TDs in a 28-22 win over Dave Douglas High.
"If his on-the-field performance is anywhere close to his off-the-field work ethic, preparation and overall (high character), he's going to be among the best I've ever seen in the state of Oregon," said Central Catholic head man Steve Pyne before the season.
Pyne may turn out to be a prophet.
GREEN WAS A two year starter at Ridgefield, a smaller school in the state of Washington. After transferring to Central Catholic, he was poised to become the starter last year but just before the season began, a torn ACL wiped away his entire junior year.
With no junior tape to send out, schools like Idaho have been waiting to see his early senior season video -- there is only so much that can be gleaned from an offseason, pad-less workout.
Scout.com rates Green as the No. 2 QB in the Northwest. "He has the physical intangibles and can make all the throws. This fall will give Green ample opportunity to solidify his place among the top signal-callers on the West Coast," says Chris Fetters.
Green said he may got to Washington for the USC-UW game this weekend on an unofficial. Later unofficials this season are planned for Oregon State and Oregon. And an unofficial to Boise also remains a possibility.
A DECORATED ATHLETE, Green has excelled as a wrestler and pole vaulter in addition to his work on the gridiron.
He is also an exceptional student, with a 3.8 GPA.
