Wauters named WAC Track Athlete of the Week
DENVER - Idaho sophomore thrower Matt Wauters has been named WAC Male Athlete of the Week for indoor track after his performance at the Vandal Indoor last weekend.
Wauters won the weight throw at the meet with a NCAA provisional-qualifying mark of 68-5 1/4 and finished second in the shot put with a personal-best toss of 54-10.
Wauters is the WAC's top-ranked athlete in the weight throw and is ranked fifth in the conference in the shot put. He is also ranked fifth in the latest Trackwire.com Dandy Dozen rankings for the weight throw.
This is the second time Wauters has earned athlete of the week honors, and the first time he's won for indoor competition. He was WAC Athlete of the Week during the 2006 outdoor season after breaking the UI hammer throw record at the Duane Hartman Invitational.
