Fueled by an outstanding 27 point performance by sophomore point guard
Leilani Mitchell
, the Vandal women improved their season mark to 18-10 with their quarterfinal victory over UC Irvine. The women advance to the Big West semifinals against Long Beach State.
The Vandal men's season ended Wednesday with a 80-67 first round loss to UC Irvine.
VANDAL WOMEN'S REPORT:
In this quarterfinals matchup with UC Irvine, 48 of Idaho's 63 points were scored by 2 Vandal Women. Sophomore point guard Leilani Mitchell hit an impressive 27 points (leading all scorers for the game), while junior post
Emily Faurholt
added 21 points to help Idaho advance to the semifinal round. Idaho, the #3 seed in the tournament, played without true freshman post
Jessica Summers
(6-1, Blaine High School) and was forced to play a much smaller / quicker game. The women responded with another outstanding effort, improving their overall season record to 18-10 and a date with Long Beach State in the semifinal round Friday (Idaho split the season series with LBSU).

VANDAL MEN'S REPORT:
Sophomore guard/forward
Dillon Higdon
had a career night, recording 19 points including 5 buckets from behind the 3-point arc. Two other Vandals scored in double figures on the night. Senior forward
Dandrick Jones
tied Higdon with 19 points, while
Tanoris Shepard
(who has earned another year of eligibility) scored 16 on the night. But the effort wasn't enough, and the Vandals disappointing 2004-2005 season comes to a close with an 8-22 overall record.
