Several 2004 Vandal football players are either at or near the top of a number of individual statistical categories so far this season. Among them is junior middle linebacker Cole Snyder, who leads the Conference in tackles with 79 on the year. In all, Idaho is well represented on both sides of the ball.


For you statistics junkies, here's a look at the categories where Idaho is either at or near the top of several Sun Belt Conference statistical rankings. There are some surprises on this list, and there are some definite signs that the new coaching staff has this program pointed in the right direction.


TEAM

The Idaho offense is #1 in the conference in time of possession (33:01 per game).

The Vandals are #2 in the Conference in turnover margin at +4 (Idaho has gained 17 and lost 13).

Senior DE Brandon Kania has bulked up tremendously this year.
DEFENSE

Cole Snyder leads the Sun Belt in all classifications in tackles on the year with 79 total (11.3 per game). He's also #1 in solo tackles on the year with 44.

Mike Anderson is #2 in fumbles forced (3) and #2 in fumbles recovered (3)

Brandon Kania is tied for 3rd in the Conference in sacks with 4 on the year.

The Vandal defense is #2 in conference in sacks on the year with 13 total (Troy is #1 with 22).

The Vandal defense is #2 in the Sun Belt in opponent 4th down conversions (Idaho opponents have only converted 5 of 14 attempts).

OFFENSE

Senior Jimmy Labita leads the conference in punt return yardage per game with 8.4 yards per return.

Senior wide receiver Bobby Bernal-Wood is currently #2 in the Conference in receptions per game (8.14 receptions per game)

Bobby Bernal-Wood is also #2 in the Conference in receiving yards per game (70.7 YPG).

True freshman runningback Jayson Bird is #4 in the Conference in rushing yards per game (86.4 YPG).

Jayson Bird and true freshman Rolly Lumbala are tied for 5th in the Conference in points scored per game by TD (4.3 PPG).

Jayson Bird is 6th in the conference in all purpose yards per game (95.7 YPG).

The Idaho offense is #3 in the league in passing efficiency (121.4).

The Idaho offense is 4th in the league in 1st downs on the year.
