What an outstanding effort by junior Mike Anderson, one of the Sun Belt's best linebackers last season, who has moved up to a hybrid DE/LB position that was implemented this year by new Head Coach Nick Holt, Assistant Head Coach Jeff Mills, Linebackers Coach Johnny Nansen, and the rest of the Idaho defensive staff. Against Eastern Michigan Saturday Mike recorded 10 tackles (4 solo), forced and recovered a fumble, partially blocked a punt, and recorded 2 QB hurries. He, along with senior DE Brandan Kania, were instrumental in Idaho thwarting EMU's drive late in the game, securing the road victory for the Vandals.
Congratulations on a very deserving honor for a great effort Saturday, and also on the season. So far through 5 games, Mike currently leads the Conference in forced fumbles (3) and fumble recoveries (3), and is the #3 tackler among linemen for the conference (with 19 tackles on the year and averaging 3.8 per game).
Interesting side note, of the top FOUR players in the Conference that are forcing fumbles, 3 are Vandals (Anderson with 3, Simeon Stewart with 2, and Siua Musika with 2). Finally, Idaho is currently ranked 2nd in the conference in Turnover Margin, with a remarkable +1 margin (tied with Troy State...ULL, sporting a 3-2 record, has a +5 total turnover margin).
