Federal Way (Wash.) wide receiver Mike Tate received his first two offers this week when Portland…
Barton Camp Notebook - QBs, WRs, TEs, DBs
Hockinson (Brush Prairie, Wa.) QB Jess Krahn (2014) - When he arrived, none of us had ever seen Krahn throw the ball, but when the combine was over we were all raving about his performance. He needs a lot of work on his footwork, but the ball really snaps off of his hand and he's got a strong arm. He showed good placement on most of his throws and will be a player to keep an eye on in the coming months. Since he's only going to be a junior this fall, he has a lot of time to show scouts what he can do. Since it's so early in the recruiting process for him, there isn't much to report on who he's hearing from, but make no mistake, if he performs like we think he can he'll get attention from schools at the FCS and FBS level.
Federal Way (Wa.) WR Michael Tate - Tate is long and lanky, but he runs smooth routes and he has great hands. He battled all day with some of the top DBs at the combine, including Henderson, and more than held his own. He's got offers from Portland State and Montana and told Scout.com he thinks that Idaho and Eastern Washington could be next.
Southridge (Beaverton, Or.) DB Alec Powell - Powell showed good change of direction abilities during the individual drills and then in the one-on-one session he showed a knack for getting in a receivers' hip pocket and then made plays on ball when it arrived. He drives really well on the ball and has a very high Football I.Q.
Union (Vancouver, Wa.) QB Nolan Henry (2015) - We mentioned Henry after the Issaquah combine a couple of weeks ago, but we still felt the need to mention him here since he shows such an impressive array of talents, he's hard not to get excited about. He comes from great bloodlines, his cousin is former Oregon QB Kellen Clemens, and he really spins the ball well. He's also got a very compact delivery and an above-average arm already as a freshman, he will be a sophomore this fall, so his upside appears to be limitless at this point.
Wahkiakum (Cathlamet, Wa.) QB Lars Blix - Another surprise at the camp was the performance of Blix who plays 2B (11-man) football for the Mules. He didn't seem to be overwhelmed by the talent on the field and showed good mobility and accuracy. He has work to do on his mechanics and footwork, but he could see his stock climb this summer and fall if he continues to play like he did on Sunday.
Decatur (Federal Way, Wa.) DB Kevin Young - We all liked the way Young looked when he stepped on the field and he held up well in the one-on-one session. He ripped the ball out several times and had good coverage on others, but at times, he struggled to turn and find the ball. He started last season for the Golden Gators as a junior and posted 27 tackles, 19 passes defensed and four interceptions. The senior-to-be definitely a player to keep an eye on this fall.
Grant (Portland, Or.) Kyrell Bishop - Bishop really showed well in the one-on-ones, coming up and challenging every receiver that stepped to the line. He loves to play press, but as the individual drills session progressed, he caught on to the "off" coverage DB coach Mike Laurence was demonstrating.
West Valley (Yakima, Wa.) TE Dylan Whitaker - Whitaker stood out in the one-on-ones, facing off against both linebackers and defensive backs. He's got a great frame, he runs well and he has strong hands. He doesn't get asked to catch much in West Valley's run-dominated offense, but he's got enough athleticism to be a target at the next level with the proper coaching and development.
