Vandals beat SJSU, No.3 seed for WAC Tourney

WITH SATURDAY NIGHT'S 70-64 WIN AT SJSU, the Vandals (18-12, 9-5 WAC) secured the No.3 seed for the Western Athletic Conference Tournament. True freshman guard CONNOR HILL of Post Falls (Ida.) hit 4-of-5 from three-point range for 12 points to help the Vandals to their second consecutive top three WAC finish under coach Don Verlin, and Idaho's first back-to-back 18-win seasons since 1993-94.

Idaho (18-12, 9-5 WAC) shot 53.5% from the field, 43% from three-point land, and 62% from the line for the 70-64 win at San Jose State (9-21, 1-13 WAC) Saturday night. Under head coach Don Verlin the Vandals have finished No.3 in the Western Athletic Conference each of the last two years, and have posted back-to-back 18-win seasons for the first time since 1993-94.

Saturday's win was a team effort, but was led by the following performances:
Deremy Geiger led the Vandals with 16 points and three assists in 31 minutes of action. He struggled a bit at the line, shooting 50% (5-of-10) at San Jose, but hit the big free-throws when it counted in the final minutes.

True freshman Connor Hill hit four straight 3-pointers to score 12-points off the bench against the Spartans (finishing 4-of-5 from behind the arc).

Senior guard Landon Tatum scored 10 for the Vandals, with two assists and just one turnover in 35 minutes of action. He went 4-of-6 from the free-throw line for Idaho.

Junior center Kyle Barone was solid on the night, playing well against the Spartan's leading scorer Wil Carter (just 12 points on the night). Statistically Barone finished with nine points, nine rebounds, four assists, three blocks (although it seemed like there were more) and one steal.
The Vandals have won seven of their last eight games, with victories at Nevada and at home against New Mexico State along the way.
